One of the English game's most prolific midfielders of recent years, Frank Lampard has been a star performer for club and country for more than a decade and few players in the world game today can rival his amazing consistency and goal threat from the middle of the pitch.
A product of West Ham's renown youth system, Lampard made nearly 200 all-action appearances for the Hammers before Chelsea manager Claudio Ranieri decided to pay £11 million to bring him to Stamford Bridge in 2001. His greatest year to date was 2005 as Chelsea won the Premiership, the club's first league title for half a century. Lampard was in sensational form throughout the campaign, scoring 22 goals for club and country from midfield. His dynamic performances saw him named the Football Writers' Association Player of the Year and he was also runner-up in both the FIFA World Player of the Year and European Player of the Year polls.
Lampard was again to the fore in 2005-06 as Chelsea successfully defended their Premiership title and he was also part of the Blues side that beat Manchester United 1-0 in extra-time at Wembley to lift the FA Cup.
